From the recording Independence Vol 1; demos and outtakes
During a week in August of 2003, Dylan-Thomas Vance, Allen Hunter, Derek Brown and I set-up and recorded live in the living room of my house in Portland, OR. John Cluff graciously suffered the heat of a stuffy front room where he engineered. Since we played and sang live with the doors and windows open to the neighborhood. we called the session "With the Windows Open." We chose songs in a "round robin"; we played one of my songs; then one of Dylans; and then one of Allen's songs; and then back to me and around the circle. In order to capture the live feeling of the session. We recorded everything using just 8 microphones put strategically around the room. The results were beautiful.

Lyrics
Love You Are Cruel
Hey love where did you go
Why’d you treat me so
And introduce me
To such sadness
All the day through
Why’d you bring me such gloom
And madness
And Hours that stand still
And moments that have no end
Love you are cruel
Love you are cruel
Oh love you are cruel
You were my girl my one true love
You gave me such strength and a warm bed
But now you are in another's arms
And I am left with just sorrow
And Hours that stand still
And moments that have no end
Love you are cruel
Love you are cruel
Oh love you are cruel
