From the recording Independence Vol 1; demos and outtakes
I recorded this song years ago in my boyhood bedroom at my parents place in Scotts Mills, Oregon. I used the old Yamaha cassette 4-track recorder that I mentioned earlier in these liner notes. This song was inspired by when my friend Eric Lovre and I purchased a cheap-o electric guitar from a junk shop for my sister Jenna. We fixed it up and surprised her with it as a gift. I wrote this ode as part of the gift with three things in mind: 1) to inspire Jenna to play it 2) as a way to write about my own experiences of playing rock'n'roll shows with Eric in our first band together, The Watchmen and 3) to pay homage to all the cool female bands that were breaking out at the time like Calamity Jane, L7, 7 Year Bitch, Babes In Toyland, The Throwing Muses and others!

Lyrics
My Sister’s Rock Band
My sister says she’s got her own rock band
My sister says she like it when the kids bang their heads
My sister says she bought a 100 watt Marshall amp
She meets her friends after school
They blow off everything they’re supposed to do
They practice in the bass players extra room
On Saturday is their first gig at the skate rink
And she says she likes it because
You can say anything you want to say
You can do anything you want to do
You can be anyone you want to be
You can go anywhere you want to go
In your own rock band
My sister’s rock band
There is no reason I see no reason
Why she won’t go far
My sister says she started her own rock band
My sister says she likes it when the kids lose their heads
My sister says she’s going to play her amp on ten
‘Cause she and her friends got the right attitude
No boys in the band that’s the part that rules
They bought a van the guys said won’t run
Now they’re eating their words ‘cause they were
‘Cause it runs, the van runs
And she says she likes it because
You can go anywhere you want to go
You can say anything you want to say
You can do anything you want to do
You can be anyone you want to be
In your own rock band
My sister’s rock band!
